Spreader cables for container cranes
The spreader is the lifting frame with which a crane picks up containers. The cable that supplies the spreader with power and signals moves with it and is moved vertically at high speed in every hoisting cycle. On a ship-to-shore crane this means many cycles per day, exposed to wind, moisture and temperature changes. Spreader cables therefore have to be strong, flexible and wear-resistant.
Reeling system or basket system?
The type of spreader cable depends on how the cable is guided.
- SPREADERFLEX REEL XPRT (formerly CORDAFLEX(SMK)-V and -V-S): for vertical reeling systems (spreader reeling applications), under extreme mechanical load
- SPREADERFLEX BSKT XPRT (formerly SPREADERFLEX): for cranes with a basket system, in which the cable is collected in a basket by gravity, for voltages up to 0.6/1 kV and suitable for cold environments
Spreader cables for mobile harbour cranes
For mobile harbour cranes there is the SPREADERFLEX REEL XTRM (formerly CORDAFLEX(SMK)-VS), a highly flexible reeling cable for extreme mechanical loads, designed specifically for vertical reeling on mobile harbour cranes. What to consider when choosing
Look at the hoist and trolley speed, the height over which the cable moves, the system in which the cable is guided and the conditions on the terminal. Also check the number of cores and whether control, signal or data lines are required. A well-chosen spreader cable prevents faults on the spreader and therefore crane downtime.
